Coming Soon! Oil Painting - Level 1
This course is a beginning class in the fundamentals of painting the still life in oils. No prior painting experience is necessary. You will learn the use of basic tools, materials, and concepts needed to create a still life painting in oils. Instructions cover materials, proper technique, color mixing, and presentation of your finished paintings.
This is a complete course in painting the still life in oils. Classes are held live via Zoom every Wednesday night from 7PM to 9PM MST (Arizona time), however, students may work at whatever pace they feel comfortable through the recorded video lessons. Students may enroll at anytime.
Tuition is only $30 per month and allows access to weekly the live Zoom classes and all other additional media for this course, or receive a significant discount by paying for a year for $160.
The Teaching Method
Instructions are delivered in four ways: live online Zoom instruction and demonstrations, recorded video demonstrations, downloadable written instruction (PDF files), and individual and group critiques.
- Live Zoom class instruction and demonstrations give the student a chance to interact with the instructor, allowing for questions and direct contact in a classroom style environment. These are scheduled Wednesday nights, 7PM to 9PM MST (Arizona time).
- Video lessons allow the student to see how each step is performed and these are available anytime for you to rewatch as needed.
- The written PDF instructions gives you an easy to follow, step by step list of proper techniques allowing you to work at a comfortable pace.
- Critiques are given by the instructor with the aim of student improvement. There will also be a group chat where you can post your paintings for helpful comments from fellow students. Critiques are done in a spirit of positive and useful encouragement
The Subject
This class will focus on still life arrangements. This includes flowers, ceramics, fruit and any other table sized objects that can be arranged into a pleasing composition for painting.

1. Gamblin artist grade oil paints - 7 colors plus white
2. Refined linseed oil
3. Safflower oil for cleaning brushes while painting
4. An assortment of hog bristle brushes
5. Palette knives
6. 12x16 inch canvas panes
7. Paper towels

Yes, although we go through the basics, the meat of this course are the weekly painting sessions via Zoom. Your instructor will guide you through making an oil painting step by step every week.
